Dear Winlock Family,
The school year is off and running, and we are happy to have your students with us at Winlock School District!
In addition to preparing our schools to open for your students this year, the maintenance staff spent their time improving facilities on two projects. I am proud of their work:
In August, our staff finished grading the area between the grandstand and the track, so an asphalt apron could be added to the track. The asphalt apron was added to protect our runners from the rocks that would accumulate on the track surface.
Earlier this month, we completed our move into a centrally located district office with some help from Winlock High School teacher Mr. Lafontaine. We are located at the old Umpqua Bank location on 401 First St.
We are proud to report that our English Language Arts scores at Winlock Miller Elementary School have increased for the fifth straight year. However, the Winlock School District scores, as a whole, are below statewide averages. The District is making program improvements at all schools by adopting a new curriculum and providing staff training.
At the high school, our Future Farmers of America (FFA) program continues to achieve excellent results. We have also added College in the Classroom courses in Spanish, which brings the total number of College in the Classroom courses to eight.
Our school district is committed to keeping our families and community informed. We improved our website this summer and invite you to explore the new winlockschools.org if you haven’t already. I would like to thank Winlock High School teacher Mrs. Evander who spent many hours working with our website provider and training staff at each of our schools so we can keep you better informed.
On a personal note, I have enjoyed my first three months in Winlock Schools, and it has been a pleasure meeting so many of you.
