The Advanced Spanish students wanted to cultivate awareness of Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place every year from September 15-October 15. September 15 marks the date of when five Latin American countries (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica) gained their independence from Spain. Meanwhile on September 16, Mexico celebrates their independence and the celebration starts the evening before, on September 15.
In Spanish classes at WHS, students have been decorating the halls, gym, cafeteria, and sidewalks in Spanish to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Additionally, students have heard about influential Spanish-speaking people daily on the morning announcements. The Advanced Spanish students took initiative to create posters to display in the cafeteria where Hispanic students can show their pride and be celebrated.
